2020 Jaguar XE vs 2020 Lexus IS

The XE is a stylish luxury sports sedan that is not shy about performance. With a choice of two trims that express power and agility, the XE also does it efficiently. Two grade levels comprise the lineup, including the XE P250 and XE R-Dynamic. Here, we compare it to the 2020 Lexus IS, a competitor in the luxury sports sedan segment.

The 2020 Jaguar XE does more with less

The XE features two engines that offer plenty of power under the hood to match the XE’s athletic exterior. The XE P250 includes a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 247 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. It offers an acceleration of 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds but also achieves a satisfying fuel economy of 9.8/6.9 L/100 km (city/highway).

The Lexus IS features two engines that attempt to compete with the XE P250. The first one is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the IS 300 RWD. It generates 241 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft of torque and has a fuel consumption rating of 10.6 L/100 km in the city and 7.3 L/100 km on the highway, which the XE P250 beats. The IS 300 AWD includes a 3.5L six-cylinder engine that produces 260 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft of torque. However, it is even less efficient at 12.8/9.1 L/100 km. It will cost you more for a less exhilarating experience.

The punch of the XE P250’s torque and advanced efficiency makes it a more sensible performer.

The 2020 Jaguar XE brings home the performance trophy

The XE’s top-performing engine is featured in the R-Dynamic. It consists of a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that increases horsepower to 296 and torque to 295 lb-ft. This results in a head-turning 0-100 km/h acceleration to 5.7 seconds as it attains a fuel consumption rating of 10.7/7.7 L/100 km.

The IS’s top-performing counterpart, a 3.5L six-cylinder that generates 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, is outperformed by the XE R-Dynamic. As a matter of fact, the IS 3.5L only reaches 96 km/h in 5.7 seconds, whereas the R-Dynamic reaches 100 km/h in the same time. Compared to the R-Dynamic, the IS also performs with greater inefficiency at 9.1/12.3 L/100 km.
